HMRC customer survey highlights tax confusion

- Less than half of businesses ‘very confident’ about what constitutes tax avoidance
- HMRC criticised for not understanding their commercial needs or resolving tax disputes properly
- Just 44% of large businesses think disagreements with HMRC are resolved within an appropriate period of time
The taxman has scored something of an own goal after the results of an HMRC survey highlighted widespread confusion about the precise definition of tax avoidance.
