Financial outlook getting brighter, but 17,000 jobs set to go in sector

The UK financial services sector will record higher growth in the next three months, after a flat quarter, but 17,000 people working in the financial services industry will have lost their jobs by the end of the first half of the year.

According to a report by the CBI published with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, around 10,000 jobs went in the first quarter and another 7,000 will go from April to June. Ian McCafferty, chief economic adviser at the CBI, said: “We forecast 10,000 cuts in the first three months of the year and 7,000 in the three months until June.”
