Finance Week FTSE
The Finance Week FTSE game has now finished. The results were as follows:
Unexpected turbulence during the latest running of our FTSE game means that only 15 contestants achieved a positive return on their notional £100,000. Two players, Uncle Quick Buck and Insert Name Here, moved well ahead of the field, their portfolio values going above £150,000.
After a cat-and-mouse contest in the final week, Uncle Quick Buck surged ahead with a winning total of £170,440. Insert Name Here came in a close second with a respectable £154,997, and a close battle for third was won by 123456789ZEN, finishing on £116,634. Commiserations to Andrew M, who finished just outside the points on £116,230.
Our top three finishers get to toast their success with a bottle of champagne. Their achievement is underlined by this round’s unusually long tail of less successful traders: most made a loss of more than £3,000, the average portfolio finishing at £96,630.
For the next round, the FTSE game is moving to our sister site, AccountingWEB.co.uk. Watch out for announcements there – the stock market shows signs of settling down for Q4, but stand by for some tough competition over picking the next winners.
